Q. How long does your range backstops last?

Outdoor Archery Ranges have been averaging 3 years. Indoor Ranges average 2 years.

Q. Does Pacific Bow Butts require a lot of maintenance time?

Absolutely NOT! No rebounding or reshuffling.

For indoor ranges: Usually once a year rotation is sufficient. We only suggest rotating every six months if you have a small range 10 – 12 feet wide, with high traffic (60 -100 shooter per week) Rotate outer butts to middle and turn 180 degrees.

On outdoor ranges the 10,20,30 and 40 yard butts gets hammered. If you have Big Butts these should be rotated top to bottom – front to back rotating. The 10 – 30 yard butts with the farther distance butts. 50, 60, 70 same goes for Super Butts This rotation routine extends butt life twice as long if you don’t rotate.

Q. What about maintenance expense?

The only expense would be replacing the poly cover. Cost $25.00 each includes shipping for range target models.

Q. Are arrows easy to remove?

Yes. At first you will need to use a two hand technique where you push and then give a quick tug, arrows will release for easy remove. Use of a high quality glue to install inserts and purchasing field points that are the same size as arrow shaft will greatly aide in arrow removal. After the first year one hand removal is the norm.

Q. Can you shoot broadheads?

YES!. Initially we didn’t recommend shooting broadheads, but we started receiving feedback from customers that do shoot broadheads. With the commercial grade backstops break-in is a key to easier removal for BH. Two-blade BH removes like fieldpoints. We’ve been testing many types and have discovered if you use the practice blades that are included in some broadhead packages, they will extract like fieldpoints. If you use three or four blade BH you’ll need to push and pull 3 or 4 times to remove it, but gets easier if you shoot the same spot and you won’t increase in penetration. Hard to believe, but believe it. And, you probably think the butts will shoot up in no time, but actually they will last five - six times longer then layered foam.

Q. What’s the best way to install Pacific Bow Butts?

Indoor ranges we recommend all target backstops should be portable for dyfers shooting. We have carts available for vertical or horizontal installation.

Outdoor ranges for the Big Butt model 10 and 20 yard butts in some instances are installed vertical for birdie targets, but in most cases horizontal installation is used. For our Super Butt vertical installation is what we recommend.

Q. Are Pacific Bow Butts used for Crossbows?

YES!! By all means have at it. (See Review).

Q. What are the covers made of and are they durable?

Our Woven Poly covering is like no other! Our covers last so long because the poly fibers are woven not flat like other target covers and ours are UV treated. They can handle full-on, direct sun light, with minimal affect due to the advanced UV protection built into the fibers and are designed to last the life of the butts.

You will be amazed at how it responds to arrow impact. What it does is move out of the way rather than getting cut by the arrow. Odd? Perhaps. But what that means is our archery backstop covers last many times longer than our competitors' targets.

Q. Do the backstops need to be covered?

Yes. We do recommend that the top of the butt be covered with 6 inched of over hang. A piece of coorigate roofing or even better we recommend using conveyor belting that seems to be in abundance nation wide and is free in most areas. It will extend the life of the covers twice as long, which are designed to last 2 years in direct sunlight..

Q. Do you custom manufacture to adapt to existing target sheds?

Yes! Most existing target sheds were built to accommodate excelsior size backstops. We can manufacture butts to fit these existing sheds. Widths from 36” up to 48”.

Q. Does your backstops leave any residue on arrow shafts?

Most cases NO
. When the butts are new some carbon arrows at speeds in excess of 300 fps have had some residue, but discontinues after a couple weeks of shooting. We try to keep up with new arrow manufacturing technology and their new types of coatings that react to friction heat. There easy to remedy once discovered.

Q. Do arrows bounce out with light poundage bows?

NO!! Any arrow any speed.
